"Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less traveled by..." - Robert Frost The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost has been one of the most inspiring poems I've ever read. Being an International student here in the U.S. has taught me a great deal. I was born and brought up in Bombay, India. Life in India is a lot different as compared to the U.S. Everything from education to everyday living is such a contrast. Back home in India, children live with their parents till they are well settled or married - characteristic of a collectivist culture The concept of earning is learnt only after you graduate and get a Bachelors degree. Women are most likely to get married by the age of 22-23. But the trend is changing and women are getting into professional fields and exploring newer horizons, rather than getting married at an early age taking care of household chores. Just like other Indian families, my parents wanted me to get married and settle down. But I had bigger plans for my future. I studied Fashion Designing for 3 years in Sophia College and joined my father's business "Wonder Weaves Systems" as a Computer Aided Textile/Fashion Designer. I had an urge to study further and I decided to complete a B.A. in Psychology and Business. Since my father is a businessman, I learnt a few skills from him about interviewing employees, training them, working in teams and giving and receiving feedback. I enjoyed promoting the Textile Designing Software's developed at our Firm and attending Seminars and Exhibitions. I was exposed to the Textile Industry at a young age and I wanted to learn more about how Organizations function. That was the starting point of my interest in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. And my dream of coming to the U.S. for my further education was fulfilled the day I got an acceptance from Florida Tech...
