Solar Music Festival Details

There are a lot of details to be worked out. We can learn from those festivals already existing.

  When?

Many events are staged outside of the January to March period since its cold up there. In Florida, we might select February to April as a possible period. A preferred date would be in February when it's too cold in other parts of the US. In following years, we might choose Friday for set up and Saturday for the event so the public can attend.

The First Annual Florida Tech Solar Music Fair was held Earth Day, Friday, April 22, 2005. The fair will began at noon and closed at 4:00 p.m.

The Second Annual Florida Tech Solar Music Fair will be held on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, 2006. The fair will began at 10 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m.

  Where?

Florida Tech (a.k.a. the Florida Institute of Technology) is located at 150 West University Blvd., Melbourne, Florida. The venue is Panther Plaza near the Student Center, accessible from Country Club Rd., one block west of Babcock St. Parking is available on the west side of Country Club Road across from the Administration Building. This is between buildings 12 & 13 on the campus map at http:\\www.fit.edu/visitors/images/index2.jpg.

What is needed for a Solar Music Fair?

Enough renewable energy to power the musicians' instruments and microphones for at least six hours.

The Florida Tech Wind/Solar Trailer has an 800 watt wind turbine, a 300 watt solar module, a 640 ampere-hour battery, an 1100 watt 120 volt pure sine-wave invertor and a 700 watt 120 volt modified sinewave invertor. The trailer also contains a sound amplification system capable of 340 watt peak power. (Far less power will be used, but sufficient to carry approximately 100 to 200 ft.) External sound systems may also be used.

What exhibiting organizations would be involved?

Environmentally-oriented organizations may be found here. Exhibitors will be provided with 1/2 to 1 table for their display and literature and two chairs for the exhibitors.
