Current Scores and Grades for CSE 5500 Computer Science Seminar Fall 2002 Current Scores and Estimated Grades
for ENS 4300/5300 Renewable Energy

Spring 2008

  Estimated or Final Grades

These are the scores and grades at the "Update" shown below. They are ordered by the last 4 digits of the student's ID. These are estimates based upon my scoring spreadsheet, and reflect information as of the date shown. I don't plan to update it for the Term Paper, Term Project, or Final Exam as those scores are earned too close to the final grades. Those last  three works count for 60% of the final grade.

Adjusted score includes any extra credit to date and is roughly extrapolated to estimate what final grade is likely. These grades are not guaranteed, and they will vary with the grades of quizzes, homework, term project, term paper, and the final exam yet to be earned. Try even harder if you are on the edge of a grade range.

  Quizzes

Quizzes are unannounced and frequent. If you don't have a previously-excused absence, you are scored zero for the missed quiz. (It's not always a good day to go to the beach!) If you cut class, you won't know what else was discussed in that class, which means you can't answer the question about the last lecture. If you don't study the text or the lecture presentation for the next class, you may not be able to answer those pertinent questions.

  Homework

Homework is not optional! Turn it in at the beginning of the class in which it is due, even if I don't ask for it! If you fail to do a homework assignment, you have earned a zero for that assignment. When grading the others, I enter a zero for homework not received, to be replaced with a score when/if I receive it. If it is late, I deduct 10% per day until turned in. Reduced score = actual score x 0.9^(number of days late) falling to 0 in seven days.

  Status Reports

Written status reports are sometimes requested as homework, and usually are scored "100" for on time, or less for late, or zero for not received. This means that your homework average gets a hit of 100 or 0 most of the time. Each status report (term paper and term project) counts up to 100. Note that "I am hopelessly behind" is a valid status, and you might still get a 100 for the report, which depends upon useful content.

  Extra Credit

Extra credit can be earned for significant effort in furthering the DMES goals of renewable energy education. You won't receive extra credit for an exceptionally good job on a term paper, etc., as that's inherent in that grade. Extra credit to date is included in the adjusted scores above. It's usually rationed out as one point for some beneficial action.
