Gempak/Garp Workshop- Mike Splitt

Mike Splitt is a Synoptic Meteorology Professor here at Florida Tech. His presentation included a two part introduction to GEMPAK/GARP featuring:

Matt Bragaw- “Hurricane Season 2004 Review”

Matt Bragaw is a forecaster with National Weather Service office located in Melbourne. His PowerPoint presentation included an overview of the busy hurricane season in Florida including Charley, Frances, and Jeanne which directly affected central Florida. DMES Whiffleball Tournament-

The Meteorology students challenged the Ocean Engineers and the rest of DMES to a game of Whiffleball. Unfortunately the other majors were a no show so… We Beat the OE’s!! PICTURES!


El Chico’s Hurricane Relief Fundraiser

FITSCAMS experienced first hand the devastation of Hurricanes Charley, Frances, and Jeanne. On Tuesday, October 26th the chapter joined together with the Florida Tech community and a local restaurant to raise money to support the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund. The restaurant agreed to donate a portion of the night’s profits if over 100 people came to the restaurant during that evening. The event was a huge success with over 120 people, including local radio personalities, coming out to support the relief effort. FITSCAMS was able to raise over $200 for The American Red Cross. Florida Tech 2004 Hurricane Season T-Shirt Sale

In December FITSCAMS continued their fundraising efforts by designing and selling 2004 Florida Hurricane t-shirts. The group was able to sell over 125 shirts to hurricane survivors across the state of Florida. To date, FITSCAMS has been able to raise over $500 for The American Red Cross.
