Chapter History

AMS Chapter History

The Florida Institute of Technology student chapter of the American Meteorological Society (FITSCAMS) began in 1997--shortly after the inception of the meteorology program within the Department of Marine and Environmental Systems. During it’s five-year history, the chapter has invited numerous speakers who have given diverse talks on a variety of meteorological, oceanographic, environmental science, and space science topics. Our guest speakers have come from within the faculty and students of the Florida Institute of Technology, from the National Weather Service office in Melbourne, from Harris Corporation, from NASA, and from Patrick Air Force Base. Overall, the FITSCAMS has grown in membership from a handful of students and faculty to a membership of between fifteen and twenty.
